September Intention: Notice Energy

What type of energy are you bringing into September?

My goal for this month is to notice and validate my energy

Today is a holiday in the US, and I started my day feeling relaxed. I did mindless things for myself and felt content. Then, around 1 pm, I noticed I was grumpy. It’s a sunny holiday, and I was beating myself up about how I was spending my time.

I decided to sit with the painful feelings. It was tough, and I can’t say that I feel 100% better, but I was able to validate the feeling. I was also able to see that not all of me was miserable. There are parts of me that are fine and enjoying the day.

Since I broke my fifth metatarsal on March 3, I’ve been looking for ways to manage anxiety and process things I wasn’t able to process in the past. One of the tools I’m using is Internal Family Systems (IFS). Later this month, I will attend my first IFS Conference. If you are interested in learning more about how some of these tools could help you, join me for this month’s Book Salon on Frank’s, Align Your Mind

Our discussion during last month’s Book Salon on Luskin’s Forgive For Good has been helping me notice when I haven’t let go of previous issues. I plan to post notes from the session soon. One tip is to recognize that there are multiple possible outcomes to all our hopes and intentions. We can validate our intentions and then think about the reality of the situation.

Validation and looking for the positive are often pathways to feeling more like myself.

Join me in noticing your energy, checking in about what is driving it, and validating it. We work on building different emotional muscles when we validate our feelings. Record one thing you validate each day in the tracking sheet below. Today I’m recording that there were many reasons for a part of me to feel yucky. I’m grateful that I was also able to shift from “I feel awful” to “a part of me feels awful.”

What are you noticing today? How can you validate yourself more?

Below is the tracking sheet for September. Click on it to download it as a PDF.

Below is an example. My thoughts is that discomfort may lead to lower energy levels. I look forward to testing it. I also look forward to seeing how validating my energy may make it change.
