October Intention: Growth Zone Activities
Happy October! I hope your Q4 (or whichever quarter it is for you) is off to a good start.
October is ADHD awareness month (mental health, breast cancer, etc, too). As someone who was diagnosed later in life, I’m grateful for what I now know. For me, there has been a lot of shame around not completing tasks or living up to expectations. I realize that I’ve been compensating as an adult by overfunctioning. I make lists, I check things off, and I take on and do a lot as if it will redeem some younger part of me.
As I try to heal, I’ve been focusing on validating myself, “of course you feel that way based on all you’ve done.” Last month, I tracked validating myself once a day. The tracking sheets help me focus and allow for the joy of checking something off. When I missed several days, I was able to remember something for each day by looking at my calendar. So I also have the joy of a completed sheet.
I like to think of October as do something scary month so I will try to do one thing every day that feels a little uncomfortable. The plan is to be outside my comfort zone enough to enter my growth zone, but not so far outside that I’m entering overwhelm. Many of these things I would be trying to do anyway, and I’m excited to see what I come up with. A few ideas I’m thinking about are to:
Rest and not work (as a solopreneur, I rarely take a full day off)
Plan a session for ADHD awareness month
Work through a few IFS exercises
Try to keep up with my recovery exercises and stretches
Say no
Travel
Cook something new
Draw, sing, and/or dance
Sit with my feelings
Celebrate my neurodiverse brain
What types of growth activities are you currently doing?
Is there anything you can do that will improve your mental health this month?
